My Thoughts On The Social Dilemma
Last night I finally sat down to watch the Netflix show, the Social Dilemma.
Having a background in Marketing means I have been an avid social media marketer for over 7 years and a personal user since I was a teenager.
I would say I am quite clued up about how these social networking sites work and why they are so addictive – yep, they pretty much know everything about you and cleverly pull you back in at any given opportunity.
Scary, right?
It’s so easy to get caught up in the everyday grind that we don’t necessarily see the impact firsthand.
Especially when it comes to the mental health aspect for the younger generation, I don’t have kids myself, but this was an eyeopener for sure. Having that play out in front of you is definitely confronting.
In more recent times, I have tried to cutback on the time I spend on social media as honestly, it worries me that you can literally spend hours on your phone without even realising it.
As a young child, I was always out playing with friends and making memories not strapped to my phone endlessly scrolling.
It absolutely breaks my heart that this is normal life now.
Don’t get me wrong, there are incredible benefits and positives to social media, especially in growing and building your business, connecting with loved ones and sharing amazing photos and memories.
But remembering the true purpose and not getting sucked into the rabbit hole and downward spiral of fake news, comparisonitus and generally losing your sense of self.
Have you watched it yet? What are your thoughts?
